News For March

Hello everyone!

I hope you all enjoyed the Summer holidays and are getting back into the swing of life again. Welcome to any new comers to our village.

Storytime is up and running once more, Pre school age storytime is at 1030 on Tuesday mornings. The session consists of songs, story’s being read and a craft for the children to do. Story’s are theme based for the term, this term being bugs and under the sea. Please come along and join in the fun!

The Kootingal Preschool is now joining us for a storytime on Tuesdays at 1130. They are all enjoying that immensely and I would like to thank the preschool for their visits.

If your New Year’s resolution was to research your family tree then don’t forget the tremendous FREE access you have to Ancestory.com at your local library branch. You will need to enter your library membership barcode and pin to access. If you do not yet have a pin on your library card ask next time you visit the library and we will arrange this for you.

Our Summer Reading Program went well. Congratulations to all the children who participated. A certificate of Participation will be coming your way very soon. Thank you to all the parents who bring their children to the library, it is lovely to see their smiling faces and hear them read their wonderful stories.

On the collection side of things I have done a huge swap with the other libraries in our area and we now have new Mills and Boon paperbacks in stock as well as a new batch of craft magazines, including scrapbooking.

New signage on the front door has gone up and looks great. No more confusion over the hours.

Until next time,

News For February

This month saw the arrival of Overlander 4WD magazine and the completion of the Summer reading program. A big thank you to all the children that participated, your certificates will find their way to you soon!

We have had a complete change over of all the paperback Mills and Boon books so for those of you who enjoy a light read please have a look at the fresh collection.

We also have all new scrapbooking and quilting magazines to tempt your crafty fingers with. You will find them on the bottom shelf of the magazine area.

Our storytimes for preschool age children have begun again (check the calendar below for details). The public are having a session and then the lovely children from the Kootingal Preschool are joining us for some stories.

I am currently in the process of wanding through all of the items in the library so if you reserve things online from Kootingal and it hasn’t been seen in 2009 then you will know that it is no longer with us. I will let you know when I have finished this long process. So far I have done the CD’s and the Non Fiction and Not For Loan items.

Keep in mind that every week a part of the collection moves on and new stock is received so there is always something new somewhere on the shelves. If you need help – just ask!

Until next time
Kerrie

January news from the library

Closure over Christmas and New Year – The library will be closed from 5pm Christmas Eve until 2pm Friday the 2nd of January. I would like to wish all library patrons a Merry and safe Christmas and New Year. It has been a terrific six months and I thank you for all your support.

New magazines! – In 2009 we will have a number of new magazines in our collection. They are: Fishing NSW, Overlander 4WD and a children’s magazine called K-Zone. We also have Better Homes and Gardens, Australian Country Style, Large Print Reader’s Digest and Super food Ideas.

For the Children – The Summer Reading Club is on during the December/January school holidays so children between 5years-16years can join anytime during the holidays – come on ‘Get in the Game!’ You will need to visit the library to register and receive your bag of goodies and rewards as you read!

Our pre school storytimes have finished for the year. I would like to say a big THANKYOU to the storytime volunteers. They have been wonderful support presenting the storytimes each week.
Pre school storytimes will commence in February 2009 pre school age children in the community and also a special reading for the children attending Kootingal Preschool. Keep an eye out for the date.

Friday the 9th Jan at 12pm there will be a 45 minute ‘Splish Splash Storytime’ for children at the Kootingal pool. Head to the pool for a felt board storytime, songs, games and craft activities. Should be a lot of fun!

From the IT Department - The Library Computer System and Website Central Northern Regional Library has recently undergone a computer system upgrade and I would like to thank you all for your patience during the upgrade. We now have some new features. It is possible for library members to put book reviews onto the library catalogue. If you would like to add reviews to the website ask next time you are in the library and we will show you how easy this is.

Two new library databases are now available to library members. “Ancestry.com” provides access to family history records from all over the world and it can be used on the public access computers inside the Kootingal Library. Another new library database “Price It!” gives prices of items from auctions held worldwide plus lots of contacts and information on collectibles and antiques. “Price It!” can be accessed on the Internet through the library web site (cnl.nsw.gov.au). You will need to enter your library membership barcode and pin to access. If you do not yet have a pin on your library card ask next time you visit the library and we will arrange this for you.

General News - With the weather warming up many of us are out in the gardens and stoking up the BBQ. Don’t forget to check out the library for gardening books, magazines and videos/DVD’s. We also have some great cook books and DVDs for indoor and outdoor cooking to provide inspiration.

Did you know - that every week a part of the library collection is refreshed with different items? Every week a portion of the collection is sent on to another library and a new portion is received from another library. It is a great way for sharing the collection around the Central Northern Regional Libraries and it creates plenty of variety for users.

Until next time !
